Multifunctional use Building, Distrito Castellana Norte, Madrid
Distrito Castellana Norte is a multi-purpose complex that is being designed for Madrid. It is one the biggest regeneration plans in Europe. With more than 300ha, this project will include a complex of mixed used buildings. It will be like a new city with its own parts, as the project involves a lot of green areas, business and shopping centers and even an interconnected transport system.
This work is a creation by the architectural firm Arup, founded sixty years ago by Sir Ove Nyquist Arup. The company, located in London, has a very big team of experts, more than ten thousand around the world, including civil engineers, designers and consultants.
Arup’s project can be considered eco friendly, as the firm is focused on the protection of the environment, by including a green zone in urban life. They also want to promote a more inconnected city, by creating a very big net of public transport, what will reduce the use of private cars and will also protect the environment.
North District Castellana Madrid is the most important urban renewal Madrid in the last twenty years and one of the biggest operations made in Europe, that will allow extending 3.7 kilometers in Madrid Paseo de la Castellana. The project will be an engine of change for the city and a gateway for Madrid as an European capital.
The great cities of the world have faced big projects like this, with a mixed use architecture and urban renewal interventions on areas where industrial activities had been completely obsolete or needed an optimization or integration with other applications. Multifunctional use Building, Beijing Dawangjing CBD Concept Master Plan
There is a master plan for Beijing, a mixed use district of buildings. This project is being developed by of one of the most influential architecture firms in the world, called SOM o Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. The multi functional architectural project will be created near the airport, which is part of an strategic plan to help China’s growth as a capital in the world.
Philip Enquist is the leading designer in SOM, one of the most awarded firms in the world. Enquist and his architectural studies have improved the quality and efficiency of urban life in the five continents, by creating strategic location unique designs that integrate nature and urban density within a framework of future infrastructure centered on the concept of mix used architecture.
The architects that have participated the most have been Peter Ruggiero and Philip Enquist, the first as a design partner of the firm and the second partner in charge of urban design of the company. Beijing & R Properties, the Chinese study E-House and MVA Transport Consultants have also collaborated in the project.
The objective of this master plan is much more than revitalize the entire area where the project will be developed. In addition it is a project that seeks to add sustainable urban planning of the area elements. The architectural scheme, that has been divided in phases, and according to the architects it will include offices, residential buildings, green zones, cultural venues, business centers and open space. It will also include its own transport system, with space for bicycles and also for cars. SOM wants to be eco friendly and reduce the carbon emissions, and for this reason they will include in their architectural project a sustainable plan. As an example, the plan includes the creation of a central park with geo-thermal exchange as a way to heat and cool the urban zone without any additional costs.
Multifunctional use Building, Setun Hills Business Park multi use complex Moscow, RUS
Another example of mixed use buildings is an architectural project in Moscow, the Setun Hills Business Park. The 244.000 square-metre district is a project with anamorphic shapes designed by BRT Arcchitekten, composed by the German architects Bothe, Richter and Teherani. The project includes a modern and original design and it seeks the combination of functionality and beauty, and also the mix of urban and natural lifestyles.
This architectural project will provide new facilities for offices, shops, restaurants, entertainment and hotels in the southeast of Moscow. Arup teams in Russia and Germany have participated in this work, to make the vision of BRT Arcchitekten a reality. The firm provides structural engineering services to build and oversee the project from obtaining building permissions.
The design of architects Bothe Richter Teherani Hamburg to Setun Hills, includes a provision of five buildings in the area, which are situated opposite Victory Park. It is a clear example of mix used architecture. The first of them will be occupied by offices and a hotel. The other three buildings will be devoted to office space. The remaining building will be a residential space for five exclusive villas and also some apartments for short stays, as well a a restaurant area and a conference room for all kinds of events.
Thanks to a close collaboration between the teams of Russia and Germany, the project has been developed under Russian codes, maintaining Western standards requested by the customer. The result is an ambitious, sustainable and comfortable building complex. The interconnection between the different buildings and at the same time with the outside allows greater integration with the environment and nature as well as a more fluid use regardless of weather conditions.
